The two leading networks of American Drama are the CW network and abc family. The seasons are aired annually, and most seasons contain up to 24 episodes approximately. 10. Gossip Girl
Started in 2007, Gossip Girl is a CW network teen drama based on the book series by Cecily von Ziegesar. The show focuses on the lives of Manhattan city’s elite and the students of the private school here. The catch is that there is a website run by an anonymous Gossip Girl, who knows everything and is every ready to trash anyone’s reputation. The show has five seasons so far, and the dates for the season six premiere have not been announced yet.
9. 90210
Started in 2008, 90210 is a CW network teen drama, about an ordinary Kansas family that moves to Beverly Hills. The show is based on the old series Beverly Hills 90210. The glamour and luxury that the Beverly Hills kids live by is what sets the show apart from all other teen dramas. The show has five seasons so far, and the dates for season five premiere have not been announced yet.
8. Pretty Little Liars
Started in 2010, Pretty Little Liars is a drama-thriller abc family show based on the novels written by Sara Shepherd. It tells the story of five friends, one of which disappeared mysteriously one night. A year later, her dead body is discovered. No one knows who killed her, but somebody seems to be sending the other four anonymous text messages, and the game seems to be getting more and more serious. The third season of the series was premiered this June.
7. Make it or Break it
Started in 2005, Make It or Break It is a show by abc family, about gymnastics, focuses on women’s gymnastics. It tells the story of four girls, who are elite gymnasts and aspire, more than anything, to be a part of the 2012 London Olympics. The third season of this show premiered in June 2012.
6. Once Upon a Time
Started in 2011, Once Upon a Time is fantasy-drama show by abc family, that focuses on a young woman who is brought into a small town called Storybrooke, by the son that she gave up ten years ago. What she doesn’t know or want to believe is that this town is filled with Fairy Tale creatures who have forgotten who they are due to a curse, and it is her job to break that curse. Season two begins in fall 2012.
5. Switched at Birth
Started in 2011, Switched at Birth is a pure drama show by the abc family, that focuses on the lives of two completely unrelated, yet extremely related girls. How? They were switched by accident when they were born, and the discovery of this switch takes place only when one takes a DNA test and files a case against the hospital. The two families make an arrangement to live together because neither wants to give up the girl they raised and both want to get to know the girl they gave birth too. To spice things up, one of the two is deaf. The show only has one season so far but has been renewed for a second season.
4. One Tree Hill
Started in 2003, One Tree Hill began as a teen drama by the CW network. It was situated in a small town called Tree Hill, in North Carolina. The show focused on teenagers from Tree Hill High School, taking us through their four years of school, skipping the college years and on into their adult lives. The focus of the story initially was about the rivalry between two boys, passionate about basketball, sons to the same father, but different mothers.
3. Jane by Design
Started in 2011, Jane by Design is a new show by the CW network, about a teenage girl in high school, who applies for an internship at a high fashion brand, but finds herself working there as a full time employee, because they mistake her for an adult. How she shuffles her lives in high fashion and high school, keeping both secret from each other, is what hooks the viewer to the show. It only has a dozen episodes so far, but the ratings show that it’s a high ranked show.
2. Vampire diaries
Started in 2010, the Vampire Diaries is a fantasy drama show by the CW network, based on the books by L. J. Smith. The story revolves under the life of a teenager, Elena Gilbert, who lost her parents in a car crash, soon discovering that the love of her life is a vampire, she finds her life’s every aspect filled with vampires and other supernatural creatures. Elena’s life is no more ordinary, she’s more special than she knew and all the vampire business is no co-incidence. The show has three seasons so far, the fourth starting in fall 2012.
1. Grey’s anatomy
Started in 2005, Grey’s anatomy is a hospital based drama by the abc family, revolving mainly around the life of Meredith Grey as she begins her life as an intern at Seattle Grace hospital. The story sheds light on the lives of all her fellow interns as they become residents and shows their ups and downs through this residency. Some leave, others stay. The show has eight seasons so far, with the ninth of beginning in fall 2012.
