Sometimes, you may be interested in a date, but you just may not feel like going out. Some days, you just want to stay in, watch a movie, and be alone with yourself. It may get hard to get out of date if you’ve promised one, and it may hurt the other person’s feelings making them think that you do not want to be with them, or that they are not as important to you as they thought . In such cases, you need to tackle the situation very carefully and technically. Here are a few ways you can get out of a date without hurting the other person.

Tell them that something unexpected has come up at work and you have to go deal with it immediately. If the other person cares about their career and job, they would understand. If they don’t get convinced, once in a while, play the “if I don’t go I will get fired” card. But don’t make it sound too unrealistic. This one usually makes you feel guilty, but hypothetically kill someone, and say that you have to cancel the date to attend the funeral. Say that you’re sick in bed with a bad stomach ache, a headache, a fever or some other illness. Tell them that you’ve taken medicines and most of them were sedatives do you’d really want to get some sleep and take some rest.

If you’re ill, chances are that your date would show up at your place to take care of you. To avoid that, say you believe you’re coming down with flu, and you think it’s viral and contagious so you don’t want to infect your date.
